Transferring with Gait Belt
All Nurse-Aides have been retrained on gait belt use during transfers. We have stopped "hooking" our arms under the residents arm to lift them. All residents have been notified of this.
From now on, we will hold onto the gait belt, and not their arms. All residents who need a gait belt now have one.
If residents refuse to use their gait belt, please let management or therapy know so we can speak with them again.

Polar Care Cube In-Service on Relias
I have updated information on the Polar Care Cube machine that we usually use for cold therapy after joint replacement surgery. Please complete this 10 minute course on Relias by May 15th.

RAPID LEARNING
Transfer with Gait Belt & Walker
1. Apply gait belt.
2. Ask resident to scoot bottom to edge of chair.
3. Place their feet underneath them. Feet should be directly under knees.
4. Place their hands on the arm rest of the chair, or bed side rail (HANDS SHOULD NOT BE ON WALKER YET). Ask resident to push upward off of arm rest on the count of 3.
5. Once standing, ask them to hold onto walker.
